Brilliant Ideas: reCap Mason Jar Caps

I thought I was done with giveaways...really. Just as I threw in the towel, I came across this incredible little Cap.

My first thought was, "How do I get one?!?" which was then followed by, "My readers would LOVE these!" I immediately emailed the company and BAM! 3 for me...3 for you! They were delivered the day after I returned from a camping trip and I became inspired. There are SO many ways you can use these babies!

But first, the important things. Yes, ReCap Mason jar caps are BPA-free. (That was my first question). They fit the standard sized Mason Jar necks and wide mouth caps are in the works. The gasket can be removed to be washed and the whole cap can be thrown in the top rack of your dishwasher (although washing plastics by hand extends their life). For now, you can buy them directly from their website for $6.99 each.

With another camping trip in the works, I knew I was going to bring my share on the trip to try them out with friends (4 other families). First, was the fabulous salad dressing...

And we used them to store our oil as well!!

Easy peasy!

Then came the EUREKA moment when Erica at Northwest Edible's posted this. She is a genius. The next morning I started playing with the concept and I came up with the following idea:

  1. Put all of your favorite smoothie ingredients into a Mason jar.
  2. Screw the blender blade assembly (blade, gasket and bottom) tightly onto the Mason jar.
  3. Place the jar onto your blender and WHAM, blend it.
  4. Remove jar from the blender and then remove the blender blade assembly. Put a reCap Mason Jar Cap securely on top and you have a smoothie-to-go!
Brilliant, right?

Ok, I know your mind is zipping around right now thinking about all of the ways YOU could use one of these caps. Dressings, rubs, smoothies, transporting your favorite cooking supplies on camping trips and to potlucks, pouring pancakes...and...

How would you use a reCap Mason Jar cap? Leave a comment below with your idea and I will randomly pick three people to send a cap to!

  1. I love that I could make protein shakes and carry them to work! I have several jars but no lids.

  2. What I really like, is that the jars are glass. They last forever. They don't absorb odor. So instead of a plastic bottle for transporting dressings or sauces, you can use almost anything in there. I think what I would use the lid mostly for is for my own juice. The ability to put the jar on the blender is awesome, but combined with being able to take the drink on the go is priceless. More so now that I started juicing, and want to be able to take along my "liquid lunches" when I'll be away from home.

  4. I would use mine to take my "second serving" of morning green smoothie to work with me. My reusable straw will fit through the hole in the cap and I can sip all the way to my desk then recap and place left ovver ( if any) in the oddice fridge.

  5. Hi there- I am loving my salad spinner, by the way- your blog is great- such an inspiration for healthy living and eating- Snacks on the go for my three small children. I love to throw a rubber sleeve over my glass jars so they become "child proof" and the great top attached to my jar make them completely child proof! Love them! Happy Monday!

  13. We would use it to cap some simple syrup for Ivan's famous cocktails.

  14. I keep everything in those jars! I'd love it for homemade chocolate syrup!!

  15. All of the above. I use canning jars as much as possible. I eve used them as glassware for a wedding rehearsal party with hemp bows tied around them and colorful paper straws. Love the dressing idea we always have trouble finding good lids for that.

  16. What a great idea! I would use these for smoothies for the kids. How easy to take them on the go and then use the lid to easily pour it into their sippy cups! =)

  17. salad dressing 1st comes to mind, need to start making home made so why not have the flip top to make it easier, shakes like you said though I'm afraid the frozen strawberries would break the jar, only one way to find out and of course a drinking containor for daily water when out and about.

  22. I love to be as healthy and organic as possible on a very tight budget. I put in a large garden, I can and freeze, we have all types of fruit trees, our own egg producing chickens and even bees but the one thing I am terrible about is drinking water. We have lots of healthy stainless water bottles but I can not STAND to drink water out of a metal container! I also do not like those pop-up bottle tops that sport bottles have ... they never seem sterile enough. I absolutely LOVE the idea of the Recaps! I can pick and choose what size jar to use (my mother feels the same as I do about drinking out of "things" and has used recycled jars and drink jars like those from Arizona Tea for years) and hopefully even find a handled pint mason jar like I recently found for my mother at a g-sale! Pints for around the house, quarts with ice cubes for running errands ... I can already feel my health improving from drinking more water and my brain fog lifting! This would be sooooo fantastic if I was able to win it! Thank you in advance for the CHANCE to win! : )

  23. I think I would use them to store seeds and seed pods! My hollyhocks put out huge seed pods that I dry and replant every year. Maybe pumpkins, squash, or other large ones, too!

  24. I like the smoothie idea. Our blender came with the blender cup thingie but its HUGE for just a small sip. And definitely salad dressing for work. Its hard to pour and not make a mess out of a regular 8oz jar with just the plastic cap.

  25. The lid is a great idea to be able to pour sauces right out of the Mason jar. I make plum sauce for pancakes and it would come in very handy.

  26. I take homemade vegetable soup to work all the time in small mason jars. This lid would be awesome.. heat up my soup, put the lid back on, then sip away. Would also be great to use these lids to make mason jars into water bottles, as others have mentioned.

  27. Oooooh. I'd definitely use this for my made-at-home (and so much cheaper than a coffee shop's) iced coffee! Thanks for a great idea!

  28. I could definitely see this on top of my morning mason jar of to-go coffee!!
